"Hum Tere Shahar Me Aaye Hai" by Ghulam Ali
Nominated by: writer (27) from Attock Khurd, Pakistan
Why: I miss the fragrance of the earth. The lyrics of this song and Ghulam Ali's voice have such an impact that they revive memories of my past. The start of the ghazal is such that it seems to narrate a sad tale of my heart. "We have come to your city," these words touch my heart and I am engulfed in the desire to return to my village. The atmosphere of the village, where each season had its own fragrance and every moment its own story. The people there, the simplicity there, and those streets in which the races and laughter of childhood resonated—this all comes to mind. Ghulam Ali's voice has that unique pain and romance that one feels for their roots. When he sings, it seems as though he is not just reminding us of the city, but of those streets, those houses, those homes where you spent your childhood. This song refreshes the memory of my village and evokes a broken yet beautiful thought in my heart: 'If only I could go back there.' The simplicity, peace, and love of the village that we never find in cities, all this comes to my mind when I hear this song.
